Steven L. Schwartz, 54, was indicted this month by the grand jury, but the official charges will not be unsealed until he appears for arraignment on June 14 in Dutchess County Court, the DA's Office said.

Schwartz was arrested following an investigation of an incident that took place between Schwartz and a student at Fishkill Plains Elementary School, said Trooper AJ Hicks, a spokesman for the New York State Police.

The investigation, which was carried out by the state police along with the Dutchess County Child Advocacy Center and with assistance from the Wappinger Central School District, revealed that Schwartz possessed images of child pornography on personally owned electronic devices, Hicks said.

Schwartz,  a Wappingers Central School District teacher for more 30 years, has been on paid administrative leave since Jan. 25, according to district records.

The district has said it is conducting its own investigation into the arrest.

Schwartz has been free on $40,000 bond since his arrest.
